The best advice I can give to new Mines' students is:
1) Have an outlet. You need something to do besides math and science. Maybe it's video games, or varsity, club or intramural sports, or band, or choir, or some other club or . . .
2) Park your pride, and your embarassment. It's ok to be proud of the fact you've been admitted and are coming to CSM. But don't think you can get through CSM by yourself. You need study groups. Don't be too proud, or too ashamed, to visit faculty and TA office hours. We're here to help. If you already knew it all, you wouldn't be here. One-on-one interactions are much different than classroom questions and answers. If you come to office hours, or make another appointment to see us, we'll help you out. But you need to come in first.

Overview:
CSM101 can be - in the most pure form - a transformational experience for incoming Mines' students. A class which embraces each student's individual developmental need(s) and assists with the transition to the academic and social culture of Mines.
Course Objectives:
CSM101 aims to tangibly develop Mines' students in 6 measurable competencies and outcomes. Through CSM101, each student should...
Feel further connected to the campus community.
Demonstrate active engagement in the campus community via social, academic, and personal involvement.
Be able to articulate an awareness of campus resources and policies.
Formulate and revise academic and career goals.
Gain a personal understanding of learning styles, skills, and strengths.
Be able to identify and communicate personal values related to wellness.
Information for Students:
CSM 101 supports student transition, retention, success, development, and satisfaction. The content of the course is not about derivatives, torque, or stoichiometry. It is about students and the university, with a focus on building a strong, positive, and productive interaction.
CSM101 is a requisite to graduate. Any student who does not attend CSM101 or does not complete all assignments will not earn a passing grade and will thus be required to retake CSM101.
